CAR WORLD RECORDS

If records are made to be broken, the folks at Guinness World Records are likely to continue to publish the oddest, most amazing, curious and incredible records on every conceivable event, product, invention, and anomaly -- even geographic irregularities. As car aficionados, you might be a bit surprised at these 5 car records combed from the pages of Guinness World Records.
Smallest roadworthy car
Created by Perry Watkins in Wingrave, United Kingdom on May 8, 2009, the “Wind Up” is touted as the world’s smallest roadworthy car. It measures just 41 inches high, 26 inches wide and 52 inches long. The Guinness World Record website says the car’s body was constructed of or an old Postman Pat coin-in-the-slot children’s ride and the building process took seven months. Surprisingly, the car conforms to all construction and use regulations and includes all the usual features found on a car, including windshield washers and wipers, turn signal indicators, head lights and brake lights. It is registered in tax class PLG a, has insurance and road tax.
Most times hit by a car in two minutes
We’re not making this up. Dietmar Loeffler was hit by a car eight times in two minutes. The amazing (or crazy) feat took place on the set of Guinness World Records – Die Grossten Weltrekorde in Cologne, Germany on November 23, 2007.
Longest distance covered by a car driven on two side wheels
Who would want to do this? Apparently Michele Pilia of Italy did on February 26, 2009 at SantElia Stadium, Cagliari, Italy. He drove a modified BMW316 mod.E30 1766cc (1983). Modifications included an Axle Blockage and an additional gas tank. How far did he drive it on two wheels? The answer may amaze you: 230.57 miles.
Longest journey by a car in a single country
This one’s a bit more recent, occurring February 8 – April 8, 2013. It happened in Russia and involved a nine-member crew that drove Volkswagen Amaroks from Moscow to Petropavlovsk (Russia), a distance of 9,813.3 miles. Team members included Gannadij Paramonov, Alexey Vorobiev, Alexander Nesterov, Andrey Ivanov, Ilya Novikov, Alexey Simakin, Rafael Usmanov and Denis Solomovich (all from Russia), and Rainier Zietlow of Germany.
Longest journey by car using alternative fuel
Here’s something to talk about when it comes to long-distance travel and being green. Driven to Sustain (out of Canada) used biodiesel and vegetable oil to travel 30,158.5 miles by car. The trip began in Columbia South Carolina on November 15, 2009 and finished in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on May 4, 2010. Tyson Jerry drove the entire journey, with Cloe Whittaker also joining during several legs of the trip and providing ground support throughout the entire journey. During Jerry’s travels through North America he collected fuel from many different locations, including fast food restaurants.

Hubcapzone Q & A

Hubcap Q&A

Q-I was unfortunate enough to have a hubcap on my 1991 Toyota Previa stolen while on a trip to New York. Back in Chicago I inquired at several Toyota dealers about a replacement and was shocked to learn that the price was an outlandish $58.45. Ridiculous. At $58.45 the hubcaps become a temptation for thieves to pursue. As a good gesture to its customers who are victims of ripoffs by unscrupulous thieves, replacement hubcaps should be made at cost plus a minor profit. But $58 is far from that. When it comes time to purchase another vehicle, I will remember what a Previa hubcap cost. B.B., Chicago

A- Your first mistake was to immediately contact a Toyota dealer. First of all, Hubcapzone not only has a huge selection of Toyota hubcaps but we average 30% less cost than the dealers. We also always have free shipping and a great product. Customer service is our top priority and we'll do everything to make it right. If you need personal assistance call us toll free: 800-804-0776

Q- I lost one of my hubcaps off my Honda civic but the dealer says they only sell sets of 4. Can I buy just one at a time and still qualify for the free shipping?

A- Absolutely! We carry singles, sets, and specially priced fleet sizes of orders always with free shipping in the contiguous 48 states. International shipping available at a reasonable fee.

Q- Can I contact you for instructions on how to install my hubcaps without breaking them? I'm afraid of shattering the plastic if I use a hammer.

A- We are always a phone call away and will gladly walk you through it to ensure they are properly installed and fit to form so you won't lose one the first day you get them.

What do the 1 percenters drive? Not what you think!

The top 1% aren’t buying Bentleys, Lamborghinis or Ferraris. Instead, the country’s most affluent car buyers are driving off in a new…Jeep?
The most popular cars among residents in 15 of the 25 wealthiest zip codes in the U.S., where median home prices range from $3.4 million to $6.7 million, include those typically associated with middle-income buyers. Even buyers with plenty of disposable income to spare — think Silicon Valley — are opting for a luxury car that’s more of a social statement than a financial one. The Tesla Model S, the first luxury all-electric vehicle, accounted for most car sales in eight (all in California) of the 25 most expensive zip codes, according to Edmunds. It has a starting price of roughly $71,000 though most purchases are in the $90,000-plus range.
To be clear, it’s not that the affluent aren’t buying super expensive cars but those purchases tend to occur less often, says Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst at Edmunds. Secondly, these lower-cost cars are probably adding to an arsenal of cars they already own.
Here are the five cars most in demand by the 1%

Tesla Model S
Starting price: $71,070
Several electric cars came to the market before it, but the Tesla Model S is the first luxury electric ride that actually looks like a luxury car -- and it’s resonating with affluent buyers. Just over 12,100 of these cars sold during the first nine months of the year, according to Edmunds.com. Year to date through August it had double-digit market share of all new car sales in the most expensive zip codes in California’s Portola Valley, Los Altos Hills and Atherton where median home prices range from $4.3 million to $6.7 million. “It’s the new it toy to have,” says Caldwell.
Analysts say it’s poised to be the first successful marriage of high-end design with a futuristic look wrapped up in an eco-friendly car. The Model S can cover over 200 miles after charging on a 60 kWh battery pack and includes amenities such as dual-zone climate control, seven-speaker stereo system, and a backup camera similar to most high-end new cars.
The car manufacturer hasn’t been without setbacks. Tesla shares fell 17.3% in October — a decline that started after a YouTube video showed the car ablaze after an accident. Still, analysts say demand for Tesla could pick up going forward. The car manufacturer is expected to begin selling a crossover SUV next year and a $30,000 car in the near future.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Starting price: $51,905
For much of this year, most wealthy New Yorkers have been buying midlevel Mercedes models, including the E-Class sedan. Billed as an executive-class vehicle, it suggests stature without attracting too much attention, which may be favorable for someone trying to stay under the radar. Similarly, the Mercedes GL-Class SUV, with starting price of roughly $63,300, has been in high demand.
Also making the list is the C-Class, the company’s entry-level vehicle with a starting price of around $36,000. The C-Class accounts for about 29% of all Mercedes car sales during the first nine months of this year, according to Edmunds. Among the wealthy, these cars are likely purchased as gifts to lucky teenagers and 20-somethings.

Jeep

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Starting sticker price: $28,690
The latest changes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee have given it a somewhat sleeker and high-end look for what’s supposed to be another rugged, sporty SUV. That seems to be the perfect fit for wealthy families in Newport Beach, Calif. Residents in another coastal wealthy enclave, Long Island’s Sagaponack, have been buying its sportier counterpart, the Jeep Wrangler whose sticker price starts at just shy of $24,000.
Could the wealthy revive demand for Jeep models? Sales are down about 3% during the first nine months of the year compared to the same period a year prior, according to Edmunds.com. Parent company Chrysler’s majority owner, Fiat, is trying to reboot Jeep by adding some of its Italian feel to new models, though it remains to be seen if changes will resonate with buyers.

BMW 3 Series
Starting price: $33,475
Neither the 7 series nor the 6 series, which are among the most expensive BMW sedans, made the list of top cars so far this year for the most affluent. But the 3 series — BMW’s entry-level model — did, according to Edmunds. It’s the most popular car in Coral Gables, Fla. for retirees who want to keep attention away and for the affluents’ children and grandchildren.
In general, the 3-series is having a moment. During the first three quarters of the year, more than 75,000 of these models sold — a 15.5% increase from the same period a year ago, according to Edmunds.com. They also account for the largest share — 35% — of all BMWs  that sold during the first three quarters of the year.

Ford F Series
Starting price: $25,065
What car do you buy when you have lots of cash and live in a city where it can snow more than four months out of the year? In Aspen’s most expensive zip code, where the median home price is $4.2 million, affluent buyers are opting for the Ford F trucks, including the F-150 or F-250.
Ford   F-series sales are actually the highest nationwide: More than 550,000 sold during the first nine months, up 21% from a year ago, according to Edmunds.

Chrome Trim Rings..what??

Chrome Trim Rings

Protect your wheels and add shine to them tooMany products on the market such as wheel covers and center caps do help protect the wheel itself from weather and debris from the roads. You can also add chrome trim rings to your wheels and protect the lips of the wheels from corrosion as well. Chrome trim rings are another great enhancement from Hubcapzone.com that not only protect, but also help make your vehicle stand out!
Chrome Trim Rings from Hubcapzone:
  • Chrome trim rings offer a layer of protection to the lip of your wheel.
  • Cost effective – they cost less than dealer product, and save you from having to get a new wheel.
  • Look good, fit good. They match other chrome enhancements, and are rugged and durable, fitting your wheel perfectly.
Chrome trim rings are made of triple chrome plated ABS plastic and are a great way to not only add some extra class to your wheels, but to also help provide a little more protection to your wheels from the elements. Chrome trim rings are designed to enhance the look of other chrome or polished features you may already have on your vehicle! With three types to choose from – standard, deep dish or flat – you are certain to find the trim ring to suit your needs.

Grime from the road, scratches, scrapes, rust and more can bring down the appearance of your vehicle and make it look worse than it really might be. The auto industry has created a way to dress up wheels and also help cover up the scratches, bumps and dings that may be plaguing the rims – by installing a chrome trim ring over the lip edge of the wheel. Made of triple chrome plated ABS plastic, chrome trim rings are a wonderful way to not only help add some protection to the rims, but to also add a much classier look to plain, ordinary wheels. Chrome trim rings are designed to perfectly match the look of other chrome or polished fixtures that may already be on the vehicle.

For your trim rings give us a call at 800-804-0776 or Hubcapzone  online!

Wheel Simulators

Often mentioned as the best invention of mankind ever, the wheel is praised to the most precious of the 6 simple machines. A wheel could be used as a steering in an automobile, a flywheel, and could be employed to accomplish an assorted number of functionalities not one in automobiles but also in a lot of other machines. Of course when someone utters the word ‘wheel,’ the first thing that comes to our mind is a Car wheel. The parts of a car wheel have almost the same components as that of a wheel used in any of the modern automobiles.

  • Hub: The Hub is that imperative part of the wheel by which the wheel could be attached to the axle as well as the brakes. The axle is inserted in to the vent present at the center of the hub and this assembly is held in place by means of lug nuts.
  • Rim: The rim forms the skeleton of the wheel. The rubber tires typically cover the rim, which gives traction to the vehicle. Rims are available in various forms and different sizes and they are typically made up of steel. Since, steel looks a bit dull and plain, chrome and aluminum alloys are the most popular type of materials used in manufacturing rims. Only the important parts of a car wheel are discussed here and this is the most vital of them all. A lot of wise folks, to save some money, will buy wheel simulators  to cover the rims from the outside to give the car a posh look.
  • Tire: This is part of the wheel that is in contact with the road usually made from rubber and provides traction and also works as a tertiary shock absorber. The particular part of the tire that comes in contact with the road is called as tread area that contains grooves which ensure good friction while braking and prevents the car from skidding on wet surfaces. The pressurized air inside the rubber tires provides comfort while riding and pneumatics.
    • Wheel Simulator: As the name suggests, wheel simulators are the best cost effective way to simulate an expensive wheel that is made of chrome or aluminum alloy. Often known as wheel covers or liners or hub covers, wheel simulators can help you bring a fancy and mean look to your car. The main reason for a lot of people to go for wheel simulators is to cut cost and most importantly the steel rims that are going to hide behind your simulators are going to durable and rugged enough.
  • Basically, these are the parts of a car wheel that you need to be aware of, as these parts are essential to your safety when driving. Be sure to get only the best quality brand for your car to ensure durability and reliability.
  • For the most comprehensive inventory of all makes and models come see us at:

OEM vs Aftermarket

Wheel accessories are divided into two categories: OEM parts and Aftermarket parts. Aftermarket Car Accessories are used in cars to replace the original parts; they are built or manufactured to replace the OE parts as they become worn or damaged. wheel accessories include hubcaps, wheel skins ,wheel simulatorstrim rings ,and there is often overlap between suppliers. Wheel accessories are parts made for comfort, convenience, performance, safety, or customization parts which are designed for add-on service after the original sale of the car.

Hubcapzone.com carries the nation's largest inventory of all these parts. We not only carry factory original parts, but we also have a huge selection of aftermarket and brand new high quality parts for every make and model including RV's and dually trucks.

One of the most costly mistakes people make is thinking they are getting the same level of quality when they buy their hubcaps at a discount store-basically in the box. These kind of products are really cheap knock-offs made in China or Taiwan and are of the thinnest materials. They don't last and more often than not people come to us because they chipped or broke them just trying to install them. You can spot these right off because the clips that hold them onto the wheel are all plastic vs. a metal clip and ring system you get on the real ones. Don't pay double by sliding by with these only to have them pop-off and shatter as soon as you get them, forcing you to have to replace them long before you had planned.

Hubcapzone.com always ships for free and we are available to help with anything from installation to finding the exact hubcap or center cap for your model car whether brand new or classic. We pride ourselves on being at least 30% cheaper than the dealers since we don't have to worry about the enormous overhead they do. Free shipping on all orders in the continental U.S. with no minimum ordering, fleet prices available.

Hyundai is on the rise!!-Check this out...

New Hyundai Sports Coupe Concept - HND-9

This is Hyundai's latest concept, the HND-9. The South Korean company will show the HND-9 at the Seoul Motor Show on 28 March.

Hidden amongst the usual fluff in the press release is the phrase, "the HND-9, with its dramatic long bonnet and wheelbase, is a modern reinterpretation of the elegant image of a classic premium sports coupe." Which pretty much sum sup what the HND-9 is.

Lose the hideous steering wheel and dash, silly Lambo doors, oversized wheels, and thin strip of tyre, and you're left with a very pretty coupe in the mould of an F-type hardtop.

That the word 'premium' is also used in the press release suggests the HND-9 will be aimed above the Toyota GT86, which is a shame because the Veloster doesn't really cut the mustard in such company. The engine in the HND-9 is a 3.3 litre petrol unit producing 365bhp. So it won't be a hybrid.

Should Hyundai make the above changes and release the HND-9 for, say $60,000 in the US it should be a success. It's problem in the UK will be Porsche, Jaguar, Maserati and BMW. A large element of the UK premium market is badge snobbery and, whilst Hyundai might be successful selling hatchbacks, no Brit will buy a £40,000 Hyundai sportscar - no matter how pretty it looks.

First Plymouth....maybe not...

Chrysler Corporations owns a 1928 Model Q Deluxe Coupe with "First Plymouth" painted in big white letters on the side. It was used by Plymouth for many years, passed off as the first Plymouth car built, but it was never Plymouth Number One; in fact, the car was the 23,426th Plymouth built. The car’s serial number (RW292L) shows that it was built between August 31st and September 15th, 1928, long after the first Plymouth was made (on June 11, 1928).
For publicity purposes, Chrysler said that the first Plymouth car had been sold to Mrs. Ethel Miller of Turlock, California. The story goes that Mrs. Miller, upon hearing that Chrysler was about to complete its one millionth car in 1934, wired Walter Chrysler and asked him to reserve the car for her. In August 1934, Mrs. Miller drove her 1928 coupe from California to the factory to take delivery; the 1928 coupe was then driven from Detroit to the Chicago World's Fair, where it was put on display - as had been the one millionth Plymouth, a PE sedan.
Following the stint at the World's Fair, the 1928 coupe spent many years knocking around various plant buildings. For some time it even sat outside under a tarp.
In the early sixties, the car left the factory grounds and went into the garage of Donald Wood, a Chrysler  employee and Plymouth Club member. After two years the car was returned to Chrysler, and has, fixed up, appeared at both the 40th and 50th Anniversary Meets held in Detroit
In 1988, on the 60th Anniversary of Plymouth, Plymouth Owners Club Membership Secretary Jim Benjaminson instituted a "Search for the Oldest Plymouth."
Jim began by sending news releases announcing the club's search to major automotive and club magazines inviting owners of 1928 Model Q Plymouths to send in the serial, body and engine numbers of their cars. A number of people responded, but none of these cars proved to have come from very early in the 1928 Plymouth production run.
Using the FEDCO code, it is possible to determine the approximate date a particular US-built Plymouth was produced. The Canada-built cars used a different coding system. As of this time, no way has been found to break this code.
The car  owned by the Chrysler Corporation and called "The First Plymouth" is actually #30 on our list!
According to the club records, the honor of owning the oldest known Plymouth goes to William Kelhi of Florida. Unfortunately, at the time, Kelhi was no longer on the club roster and did not respond to attempts to communicate. The car did show up two decades later, in Wainwright, Alberta. On August 8, 2010, it was sold for $25,000 (Canadian) to a buyer in Windsor, Ontario, where it was built.
The member who had the oldest Plymouth on the club's list was Doug Kennedy of Adelaide, South Australia, who had the honor of owning a right hand drive four door sedan  built in Detroit in early August 1928, and bearing an Australian-built S & W body.
Doug, together with his wife Lyn and friend  and fellow club member Barry Kenyon, was in attendance at the 1988 Grand National Meet in Detroit. One could tell on show day that he dearly would have loved to have had his '28 there with him. Congratulations, Doug!
However worthy a recipient we know Doug is, we hope the honor of owning the club's oldest Plymouth won't stay his for long. The search goes on. Who knows? Maybe one day we will find the first Plymouth ever made!

The Hubcap Lady

The Lady was actually built in 1983 by the owner of what was then a metal working company. He wanted to make a statue that honored women and their virtue and strength. He commissioned an 18-year old girl to design them, and she along with the women that worked at the metal company, spent time after work building it over the course of a year. The scales actually mean that "love outweighs everything else," according to the article. Very beautiful and moving works of art!!
The Poem reads,"I am your mother yet I am a woman standing in to the 'Winds of Change.' Expected to be better than good....The Winds force me to change yet I do not want to be anymore than I am. A woman - your mother Take my hand. We will stand togeter into the 'Winds of Change" --The Lady

We're not just another hubcap shop, we see the art in the industry...what's your dream?

CONCEPT CARS..FUTURE OR FRAUD?

OK, below I have included 2 concept cars and one classic. While I don't want to nitpick each one in details, I have to ask you..which one is sexier? If you're under 30 I'm guessing you'd go for the concept cars..who could blame you? The BMW is also a hybrid so you can quell your green yuppie guilt for buying one and justify your smaller carbon footprint.
BUT..that beast of a muscle car is all about pure, raw power!! The kind that when you start that car up and it roars to life your heart actually skips a beat. It's about all-out loud, screaming hard rock-n-roll blaring with the windows down and the smell of the tires burning as you jump that throttle. Everything gets pushed backward giving your neck a little whip and before you know it you are climbing to warp speed before you can figure out how fast that first cop is going to nail you on the radar.
Now I ask you again...you want to be correct or do you want to twist Detroit, American-made steel monster block engines into some real fun?? Where has all the fun in cars gone.....til next time...

Happy 2013! It's not the end of the world...is it?

It's a brand new year and everything will hopefully be better in the world with a fresh new start.Even North Korea has announced they will try to get along with South Korea so that's got to be a step in the right direction-right? First, I'd like to hit on a pet peeve that really hit home this December with Christmas shopping. Like most of you I'm sure, I shopped online this year. I decided to find a normally very expensive designer gift for my daughter hopefully with a little discount on that very famous site E***. Have you ever tried this? You hope it's not a hot item, you hope you can trust that the seller is honest with you, you hope it ships in time and that you don't think you're going to get gouged with enormous shipping charges to make up for the great discount. Well, I got screwed. I didn't get my item as described, the condition was awful, and to top it all off the seller didn't charge/quote me enough shipping so when I retrieved the box from the post office I had to pay the difference!! Of course the seller ignores my emails, and there is no shot at a refund-really? This is why Hubcapzone will not sell on these type sites! We are always willing to go the distance to provide you with website pics, email, and phone options. We also offer FREE shipping without a minimum order and we also offer a replacement or refund option to make sure you are 100% satisfied. Personal attention is our goal and we will bend over backwards to make it happen, you have our word.
